SAILING INTO NEW HORIZONS: TALES FROM PO2 IGAO’S TRANSITION FROM NAVY LEAGUE TO SEA CADET PROGRAM
As the tides of time carry our young maritime enthusiasts from one chapter to another, we catch up with PO2 Igao, a dedicated Cadet who has just aged out of the Navy League Cadet program, NLCC JP Bell, and is embarking on a new chapter in her maritime journey by joining the Sea Cadet Program.
When asked about her motivation for transitioning to the Sea Cadet program, Igao reflects, "As I age out of the Navy League program and step into the Sea Cadet program, I am motivated by other Cadets who have joined before me, and I look up to them as role models." This sense of admiration for those who have gone before her speaks to the strong sense of friendship and mentorship within the Cadet community.
In offering advice to younger Navy League cadets, PO2 Igao emphasizes the importance of respect and resilience. "Respect other Cadets and officers, and never give up on your dreams," she advises. These words echo the values instilled in both the Navy League and Sea Cadet programs, emphasizing not only skill development but also personal growth.
Reflecting on the uniqueness of the Navy League and Sea Cadet programs, PO2 Igao speaks highly of the invaluable lessons and experiences they offer to young individuals. "The two programs teach young individuals many helpful lessons and offer many experiences that many haven’t experienced before," she notes.
