CPO1 Lau has been a Sea Cadet for the last six years at 195 RCSCC Bicknell in Richmond, BC, and has also attended the CSTC Quadra as a Gunnery Staff, supervising as many as 160 cadets. Throughout Miss Lau’s cadet career, she has been honored with a variety of awards, such as the Admiral R. Yanow Award of Merit in 2006, presented to the Sea Cadet in Pacific Region who attained the highest aggregate score on the Petty Officer First Class Performance Check. She was also awarded the Top Instructor Award and the Leadership Award in 2008, as well as the Commanding Officer’s Commendation in 2009.
Margaret has also been an active volunteer in her community through the Thompson Community Centre, Richmond Secondary School, the British Columbia Special Olympics and the Commerce Undergraduate Society. Miss Lau has been accepted into the University of British Columbia Commerce program and plans to attend in the fall.
The Navy League of Canada salutes Margaret Lau, and thanks her for providing such an excellent example of what young Canadians are capable of.
Miss Lau was presented with the national award on June 7th, 2009 at the RCSCC Bicknell Annual Cadet Review.
