2010 Canadian Coast Guard Deployments for Sea Cadets

During the summer of 2010, it is expected that Sea Cadets will again be offered billets to sail aboard Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) Ships. The CCG Ship Deployment is a demanding and unique opportunity and is only available to a handful of Sea Cadets. For this reason, only deserving cadets deemed capable of successfully completing the training will be considered for selection.

The CCG training takes place generally aboard a CCG Icebreaker. The ship, under the command of a qualified CCG Captain, sails off the Canadian East coast up to the North Arctic Seas for a period of 3 or 6 weeks and continuously at sea for up to 5 days. During this training, cadets and officers' are expected to be involved in every part of shipboard operations on a 24/7 watch system. more>>

2009 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Scholars

Former Cadet Chief Petty Officer Brian Weston receives a Maritime Affairs Scholarship from Mr. Greg Snow - Area Representative - The Navy League of Canada - Ontario Division. Brian is currently attending Georgian College completing his first year of studies in the Marine Navigation program.

Former Petty Officer First Class Jamie Bone receives a Maritime Affairs Scholarship from Mr. David Hood - Division President - The Navy League of Canada - British Columbia Mainland Division. Jamie is the first person to receive the scholarship twice, after maintaining high marks and community service despite his demanding course load. He is currently enrolled in the co-op nautical sciences program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, leading to certification as a Master Mariner.

The Maritime Affairs Scholarship program is funded jointly by the Naval Officers Association of Canada and the Navy League, and both of these outstanding cadets are grateful for their continued support. For more information on the scholarship program, click here.

Hockey Time

Hockey

Cadets from RCSCC Chaleur, RCSCC St. Croix and RCACC Lemeque, as well as volunteer Fred Best, joined ranks to cheer on the local Major Junior Hockey League team Le Titan as they played host to Cape Breton's Screaming Eagles.

The November 21st event was held in Bathurst, NB and the cadets were able to attend the game thanks to the generous sponsoring from Xstrata Mining and the City of Bathurst.

Vintage Navy League Cadets Video

Thanks to the volunteers from NLCC Ark Royal and the Toronto East Branch for sending this great video of clips from 1962-1964 - all of which were filmed by a proud mother on her 8mm camera. Former cadet Murt Howell, and member of the Vanguard Sea Cadet Alumni, was kind enough to transfer the footage his mother shot and share it with us.
