Advocacy

Ever since The Navy League of Canada was formed in 1895, we have kept watch over Canada's oceans, lakes and rivers. From time to time, we will provide the government with recommendations which we deem to be prudent for the responsible and sustainable stewardship of our marine resources. This can include Defence, Fisheries & Aquaculture, Industry, Tourism, Trade and Environmental Protection.

At present, The Navy League of Canada is recommending a series of measures to reform procurement practices for our government fleets.

Our most recent paper, Military/Naval Procurement in Canada: A Flawed Process (Published by the CDA Institute) examines the history of naval procurement in Canada and provides recommendations to ensure the process is effective, efficient and responsive to the needs of Canadians.

The Navy League of Canada recently held the 3rd Annual Navy Appreciation Day on Parliament Hill on October 19th, 2010.

Navy Appreciation Day is a non-partisan activity, and we would like to thank our parliamentary co-sponsors: The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence; The Honourable Noel Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate; The Honourable Hugh Segal, Senator; The Honourable Bill Rompkey, Senator; The Honourable Doctor Keith Martin, MP for Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca; Peter Stoffer, MP for Sackville-Eastern Shore; and, Claude Bachand, MP for Saint-Jean.

The event was funded through corporate donations, and the Navy League is grateful for the generous contributing sponsors.
